Interstate Waste Services, a leader in non-hazardous waste management in the Northeast U.S., is seeking a dedicated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to keep our extensive fleet of waste management vehicles and equipment operating efficiently. This role is crucial in minimizing downtime and ensuring our services run smoothly and environmentally safely, reflecting our commitment to innovation and excellence in waste management. Conduct regular maintenance and diagnostic tests on waste collection trucks, heavy-duty machinery, and other related equipment. Repair or replace damaged or worn parts in a timely and effective manner. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, as well as welding and cutting equipment, to repair heavy equipment. Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups. Advise management on any equipment health and safety policies, and potential cost-saving adjustments. Prepare and maintain records and reports on repairs and maintenance performed. Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations in the handling, storage, and disposal of waste and other contaminants. Profound knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Strong problem-solving skills and detail-oriented. Ability to work under pressure and handle physically demanding tasks. Experience with welding and fabrication is advantageous. Proficiency in using various types of mechanical and diagnostic tools. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred. ASE Certification in Heavy Truck or similar credentials is a strong advantage.
