Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse. Job Duties
Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are
delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and
are appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Identifies and
documents initial observation and assessment of the patient's needs
for immediate nursing action. Systematically and accurately
assesses nursing needs of the critical patient in order to detect
pertinent changes in the clinical picture. Identifies appropriate
foci. Selects, plans, evaluates, and documents care based on this
assessment. Assesses, intervenes, and documents appropriately to
meet patient's educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning
needs. Consults with unit Nursing Leadership regarding significant
changes in patient's condition. Collaborates with all members of
the health care team by utilizing all available resources to ensure
optimal outcomes. Gives comprehensive patient care. Communicates
relevant patient care information appropriately utilizing chain of
command and during shift-to-shift report. Utilizes patient care
standards in clinical practice. Completes ICU Admission/Transfer
Summary Sheet and/or Discharge Summary. Transcribes physician's
orders in patient chart accurately and timely. Seeks clarification
of physician's orders that are unclear or inappropriate. Interprets
clinical data and notifies the physician promptly if immediate
changes in management are indicated. Auscultate chest to assess the
need for appropriate therapy, e.g., suctioning, chest physiotherapy
and/or mechanical ventilation. Establishes IV access and maintains
line. Performs phlebotomy duties as necessary. Administers
intravenous medications as per policy. Titrates medicated infusions
as per physician's prescriptives, protocols, and standard. Assesses
and coordinates patients pain management. Monitors patient's
nutritional status and collaborates with Multi-Disciplinary Team to
ensure adequate nutrition to meet metabolic needs (e.g., reports to
physician on changes in patient condition, suggests initiation of
enteral feeding). Transports patients to and from the OR as per
hospital policy. Recognizes arrhythmias and institutes appropriate
measures. Performs CPR and defibrillation/cardioversion. Responds
appropriately in crisis situations by demonstrating knowledge of
emergency procedures, remaining calm, and functioning properly in
emergencies. 1,5 Recognizes and reports malfunction or failure of
equipment used in the ICU/CCU to Biomedical Engineering; takes
appropriate action to replace such equipment (e.g., ventilators,
cardiac monitors, defibrillators, suction apparatus, pumps,
doppler, O2 tank, NIPP, and pacemaker). Checks to ensure that
emergency equipment is on hand, in good working order. Checks that
all monitoring equipment and ventilator alarms are set according to
standards. Assembles appropriate equipment, monitors arterial,
pulmonary artery and left atrial lines; obtains specimens and
records and interprets findings. Obtains cardiac output using
thermodilution catheter. Removes peripheral, central venous, and
percutaneous arterial lines. Monitors intracranial pressure.
Maintains patient's airway. Actively participates in weaning
patient from mechanical ventilation. Operates Intra-aortic Balloon
Pump (IABP) when indicated. Performs peritoneal dialysis. Performs
continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration. Extubates patients when
ordered by a physician. Administers blood and blood products.
Inserts naso-gastro tubes. Takes 12 lead electrocardiograms.
Provides appropriate assessment and care for patient on left
ventricular assist device. Provides appropriate assessment and care
for patients with pacemakers. Assesses and manages patients with
ventricular drains in place. Participates in patient care rounds by
presenting findings on patients. Applies principles of infection
control and safety. Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
Provides clinical supervision of LPNs, Hospital Attendants, and
other ancillary staff. Understands and adheres to the Medical
Center’s Code of Conduct. Customer Service: respect, flexibility,
knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience
and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional,
caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service
Performance expectations Maintains established departmental
policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program,
safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses
gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and
procedures to fulfill these gaps. Familiar with the Medical
Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements. OTHER JOB DUTIES
Assists in data collection and analysis of quality assurance
monitors; participates in problem identification and criteria
development. Participates in continuing education activities:
attends scheduled in-service programs. Participates in
implementation of follow-up action for Q.A. monitors. Effectively
utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job
responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy. Relieves
nursing leadership when necessary. Orients patient's family to new
environment; develops rapport with patient's family. Assists other
personnel as needed. Keeps up to date with current trends pertinent
to area of assignment; shares information gained at conferences
with colleagues. Participates in nursing committees as required.
Attends monthly staff meetings. Performs other related duties as
required. BASIC COMPETENCIES Education: BSN required, or proof of
enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected
within three (3) years of start date. Please note that selection of
the candidate for any position will depend on several factors,
including the individual’s educational background, skills, and
professional experience. Successful completion of in-house
Intensive Care Orientation Program required. Successful completion
on in-house EKG course. Licensure/Certification: NJ licensure as
RN. BSN preferred. BLS, ACLS, and IV certification. Experience: At
least 3 years of medical or surgical nursing experience required
Skills: BLS, ACLS, and IV certification. Knowledge of cardiac
monitoring. Good oral and written communication skills. Good
interpersonal skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the
extent required by the position. JOB SETTING/PHYSICAL DEMANDS All
Intensive Care areas. Handles emergency or crisis situations.
Frequently prolonged standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes,
and/or transfers patients. Protective clothing worn: face shield,
gloves, impermeable gown, laser mask. Salary commensurate with
experience within posted range $60.1298 weekday /$65.1188 evenings
& night/ $73.7143 Weekend& Holiday / $4.00 Critical Care
Differential for first 365 days. If employee gets certification it
will go up to $8.00 after 1yr. If not, they lose the initial $4.00
